“I need a break and I’ve never been able to say that before,” the singer said in a recent interview
Kelsea Ballerini has been on the move for months. Her fifth studio album Patterns arrived in October and sent her off on her first headlining arena tour in January. Heading into 2025, the singer-songwriter’s slate also included her first season as a coach on The Voice. With both obligations now in the rearview, Ballerini is taking a moment to consider what she might want to do next.
“I need a break!” Ballerini said on Today With Jenna & Friends. “And I’ve never been able to say that before, but I really think it’s just time for me to pump the brakes, figure out what’s next, have a summer, what? Go to the beach? Huh? Learn to cook a new meal, hang out with the dogs. So that’s kind of my agenda.”
Still, the singer isn’t shutting herself off completely. “Every time I say that I have time off, something happens. But I’m very open to whatever is out there,” she added. In a recent photo dump on Instagram, Ballerini included a screenshot of a text message where she wrote: “I’ve written down 387382 ideas the last few weeks i’m starting to feel ready to dabble dee dabble daaa.” Next week, Ballerini will appear at CMA Fest in Nashville.

Music will likely always be on Ballerini’s radar, but she isn’t certain about what her future on The Voice might look like. “It’s been such a beautiful season of doing things that are out of my comfort zone and bigger than I’ve ever done, and it’s been really fulfilling. I love being in that seat,” she said, noting that she would “never say never” about the prospect of returning for a later season. When Season 27 wrapped, she referred to the experience as being “one of the greatest honors of my career.”
