Kanye West sued by producer for allegedly refusing to pay him for two years

Kanye West is facing a new lawsuit from a producer, who claims the rapper “refused to compensate” him for two years.

The rapper is being sued by an anonymous freelance producer named as ‘John Doe’ in the lawsuit. The producer claims that he was hired “on an emergency basis” just two days before the release of 2024 album ‘Vultures 2‘, and that he worked with West again on this year’s album ‘BULLY‘. The producer is suing for breach of contract, unjust enrichment, violations of laws protecting freelancers, amongst other claims.

According to Rolling Stone, who obtained the lawsuit, the producer made “nearly two years of demands”. West, meanwhile, reportedly “refused to compensate plaintiff for plaintiff’s services” along with failing to “provide any written contracts as required by law” or “credit [the] plaintiff on digital streaming platforms for his creative contributions.”

The lawsuit also claims the producer created over 400 AI vocal generations using at least 13 custom AI voice models, alongside using his own voice. According to the suit, Ye used these contributions on five tracks on ‘Vultures 2’. The producer went on to work with Ye for ‘Bully’ in October 2024, where he reportedly created more AI vocals.

West reportedly did acknowledge the producer’s contributions, and the lawsuit claims they were updating information on streaming platforms to reflect this. West also allegedy offered to give the producer a “master buyout”.

NME have contacted West for comment.

The producer is seeking at least $110,000 (£81,700) in damages for his contribution to seven tracks.

West has been embroiled in a number of lawsuits in recent years. He just recently settled a lawsuit with his ex-assistant, who accused him of sexual assault, sex trafficking and wrongful termination. His legal team denied all accusations of wrongdoing, calling the allegations “baseless”. They eventually settled the matter out of court, but did not disclose any details about the settlement.

He was also found to have used a sample on his song ‘Hurricane’ without producers’ permissions last May.

The rapper was separately ordered to pay an ex-employee $140,000 (£104,415) over unpaid renovations on his Malibu house in March.

West is also facing a lawsuit from a model, who sued West for sexual assault in November 2024. Jennifer An, who was a finalist on America’s Next Top Model in 2009, alleged that he subjected her to choking and “pornographic gagging” with his fingers on the set of a La Roux music video. La Roux herself has backed these claims. West has not made any public comment on the matter.
