Julien Baker and Torres Share New Single ‘Dirt’ From Collaborative LP

Duo’s country-influenced Send a Prayer My Way arrives April 18

Julien Baker and Torres have shared their new song “Dirt,” the latest single from their upcoming collaborative album Send a Prayer My Way.

Following previous offerings “Sylvia” and “Sugar in the Tank,” “Dirt” is an acoustic country ballad amid the album’s “Music Row glossy bangers,” as the duo told Rolling Stone of their joint LP.

“Sometimes it makes me feel better/Sometimes it makes me feel worse,” Torres sings on the chorus. “Used to think that it was magic/Now I’m sure that it’s a curse/Spend your whole life gettin clean/Just to wind up in the dirt.”

Soon after, the the pair will kick off a tour starting April 23 at the National in Richmond, Virginia, while the run wraps May 12 at the Admiral in Omaha, Nebraska. Baker and Torres also have a bunch of festival dates scheduled, including sets at Zootown Music Festival in Missoula, Montana in July and Oregon’s Pickathon in August.

Send a Prayer My Way has been nearly a decade in the making, with Torres and Baker agreeing to make a country record after playing a show together way back in 2016. Over the years, though, they’ve largely focused on other projects, primarily their respective solo careers. Torres released her most recent LP, What an Enormous Room in 2024, while Baker’s Little Oblivions dropped in 2021. Baker also spent the last couple of years with boygenius, who released their debut album, The Record, in 2023.
