Joe Jonas says ‘South Park’ parody upset Nick and Kevin: “They really went for us”

Joe Jonas has discussed at the South Park parody of Jonas Brothers, and said that Nick and Kevin weren’t too pleased with the depiction.

The animated show – known for brutally mocking and tearing down pop culture figures – took aim at the boy band during the height of their time on Disney Channel, and portrayed them as corporate shills who were being exploited by vengeful boss, Mickey Mouse.

Aired in 2009 as part of the show’s 13th season, episode The Ring made a nod to the film Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience, and saw the Disney corporation trying to use the band’s image to sell sex to young female viewers – all while trying to maintain their respectable image by making them wear purity rings as a sign of their virginity. In one scene, they are seen being violently beaten by Mickey Mouse for disobeying his orders.

Speaking about the depiction of him and his brothers in an upcoming episode of Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals, Joe Jonas explained how he had a more positive response to the episode than his siblings at the time.

“I think I was the only brother that loved it,” he said (via Entertainment Weekly). “I thought it was hilarious, because I watched South Park, and I was like, ‘This is so funny, I know what they’re doing, they make fun of everyone!’”

“To be made fun of by a comic is usually a sign that they give a shit, and they care, and it’s funny. They really went for us,” he added. “I mean, what an honour to get my ass kicked by Mickey… I think it’s one of my favourite episodes.

“Now we just laugh [about it]. We love that. I think it’s so great. Definitely a claim-to-fame for me.”

Earlier this year, a trailer was shared for the forthcoming 27th season of South Park, taking aim at the likes Diddy, Ketamine, and a war with Canada. That season will air from July 9, with UK viewers able to watch new episodes via streaming service Paramount+.

Joe Jonas’ interview on Last Meals will be available in full tomorrow (June 3) at 6am ET/3am PT via Mythical Kitchen’s YouTube channel.
