Jenny Lewis celebrated her 50th birthday in unorthodox fashion last week, throwing a mock wedding for her and her beloved dog.
“I married my dog for my 50th birthday… BLESS!,” Lewis wrote on social media, sharing photos from the ceremony where she “wed” her cockapoo named Bobby Rhubarb:
Lewis, who turned 50 on January 8, was joined at the party/wedding by friends like Phantom Planet’s Alex Greenwald, Morgan Nagler, and her Postal Service band mate Ben Gibbard, with the pair performing that band’s “Such Great Heights” at the reception, the Independent reports.
Lewis’ canine companion previously inspired her 2021 single “Puppy and a Truck,” which later resurfaced on her 2023 LP Joy’All. “Like a shot of good luck,” Lewis sang on the track, “I got a puppy and a truck/If you feel like giving up/Shut up/Get a puppy and a truck.”
Speaking to Rolling Stone in 2023, Lewis opened up about adopting Bobby Rhubarb at a time when her forties were “kicking my ass,” as she sings on “Puppy and a Truck.”
“I was in a really rough spot. I’d been isolated for over a year, quarantining totally on my own, and I had to find things to get me out of the house. The truck provided that,” Lewis said.

“I don’t have any kids, but this dog opened me up in so many ways — being responsible for a soul and caring for something outside of yourself. It’s been a really important lesson for me. Kind of obvious, I guess, but I had no idea. I had fantasies of owning a white wolf. Instead I ended up with a cockapoo.”
Lewis and Bobby Rhubarb can enjoy a nice little five-month honeymoon before the road comes calling for her again, as Lewis is booked to once again rejoin Rilo Kiley for a series of reunion shows in the U.S. and Europe beginning in May.
