Jehnny Beth has shared a blistering new song called ‘Obsession’, which channels inspiration from Tricky, KoRn and Tool. Check it out below.
The single is the latest to be shared from the former Savages singer in the run-up to her sharing her new solo album ‘You Heartbreaker, You’. The record is set for release on August 29 via Fiction.
Written with her longtime co-creator Johnny Hostile, the song was recorded and produced at their 20L07 studio in France, and offers the latest preview of the album, following on from the pummelling single ‘Broken Rib’.
“Never say never / No one is born with a hole in the heart/ Above / Capable of love / More than the average man,” they sing in the distorted, eerie verse, capturing a similar feel to that of Nine Inch Nails. “I don’t know why I am so girly / I’m just desperate to know when we will be together / Don’t say never.”

“’Obsession’ is the first song Johnny and I wrote together for this album,” Beth said. “The lyrics ‘you heartbreaker, you’ gave the title to the album but, more than that, the song gave the album its tone. It is probably one of the most detailed tracks on the record.”
“The song obviously deals with the subject of primal obsession,” she added. “It has this spiralling repetitive tension to the point of explosion, going from a whispered confession to a gnarly scream in the blink of an eye, which was fun to make – imagine Tricky and Jonathan Davis making a song with Adam Jones from Tool! In my head anyway.”
The new single comes following the solo star, TV presenter, radio host and actor announcing details of a UK and European tour, which will kick off this October with an opening night in France.
Other dates include stops in Lyon, Milan, Berlin and Amsterdam, and the tour wraps up with two back-to-back nights in London. The first will be held at Electrowerkz on October 30, and the second will be at the Camden Assembly the following night (31). Visit here to buy tickets, and here to pre-order the new album.

Last month, Jehnny Beth spoke to NME about what fans should expect from her live shows and from the forthcoming record.
“I think people want to see some real shit now: things with integrity, things with presence. That’s where I want to go,” she said. “The album is a heart-to-heart so the stage will be eyes-to-eyes. It’s about a moment. I’ve been a huge fan of Fugazi since I was a teenager so there will be elements of that raw, unique energy.”
The singer’s first album as a solo artist was ‘To Love Is To Live‘, which was shared in 2020. Since then, she has worked on a collaborative album with Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, had her music TV show Echoes grow in popularity, and been seen acting in films including Paris, 13th District and Anatomy Of A Fall.
