Janet Jackson Mourns Brother Tito Jackson: ‘May You Rest in Eternal Peace’

Tito Jackson, the third of the 10 Jackson siblings, died in September at the age of 70

One month ago, Tito Jackson died at the age of 70 following a medical emergency in New Mexico. His death marked the first of the Jackson siblings since Michael died in 2009. Tito was the third born in a batch of 10, and his youngest sister Janet was born last. In a recent Instagram Story post, Janet Jackson publicly mourned her brother Tito for the first time since his death.

“May you rest in eternal peace,” Janet wrote beneath a photo of herself and her brother captured during a magazine shoot at their family home in December 1972. “I will miss you so much.”

Oct. 15, the day marking one month since his death, was also Tito’s birthday. His sister La Toya also shared an Instagram post of a video she filmed with her brother, writing: “Happy Heavenly Birthday Tito! I will always love you.”

Tito’s three sons — Taj, Taryll, and TJ — who broke the news of his death in September, issued another statement in memoriam alongside a slideshow of photos in honor of the day. “Today, on what would have been Tito’s 71st birthday, we celebrate his incredible life and legacy, but most of all his beautiful spirit,” they wrote. “His presence will always be deeply missed, but his music, kindness, and love will forever live on in our hearts. Tito brought so much joy to the world.”

They added: “As we honor him and commemorate his first heavenly birthday, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has shown support and love during this challenging time. Your words of comfort and the respect for our family’s privacy has meant the world to us.”

Tito is survived by Janet, La Toya, their mother Katherine, and the six other remaining Jackson siblings: Jermaine, Randy, Marlon, Jackie, and Rebbie.
