Jackson Browne issues statement after death of son Ethan, age 52

Musician Jackson Browne has issued a statement following the death of his son Ethan, age 52.

On Wednesday (November 26), the musician revealed the death of his son in a Facebook post, writing: “It is with deep sorrow that we share that on the morning of November 25, 2025, Ethan Browne, the son of Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major, was found unresponsive in his home and has passed away.

“We ask for privacy and respect for the family during this difficult time. No further details are available at this moment.”

Ethan worked as a model, musician and an actor and had roles in the films Raising Helen, Hackers, and the television series Birds of Prey.

Ethan also formed part of a musical duo Alain Zane alongside Cat Colbert. The pair released the album ‘Right Before Your Eyes’ in 2022. Ethan also founded Spinside Records, an imprint on Jackson’s independent label, Inside Recordings.

Ethan famously appeared with his father on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine when he was just six months old.

Speaking about his son’s music in 2022, Jackson said: “He’s a very talented bass player…I enjoy watching him and listening to his music. Does he remind me of myself at that age? Nah, not really. He’s a better musician than I am.”

Ethan was recently mentioned in Mark Ronson’s new memoir Night People. As per People, Ronson recalled befriending Ethan who was roommates in New York City with Simon Rex at the time. Ronson described Ethan as “the real deal — with an angular face and soulful gaze that seemed to reveal his deepest truths, even from a glossy page.”

He also said that Ethan had the “sharp cheekbones” of his late mother, Phyllis Major and the “soulful eyes” of his dad. Major died by suicide in 1976, aged 30. Jackson said in a 2021 interview in Route Magazine that after the death of Major, being a father to Ethan was his “main focus” in life.

Earlier this year, Jackson appeared alongside Bruce Springsteen in New Jersey.

The Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center organised an American Music Honors show at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey on April 26, where an audience of just 700 got to witness the Boss jam alongside Browne, John Fogerty, Smokey Robinson, Tom Morello, Darlene Love and Nora Guthrie.
