Jackmaster dies from accidental head injury aged 38

The Scottish house DJ and producer Jackmaster has died following “complications arising from an accidental head injury” at the age of 38.

The news was confirmed by representatives of the musician on Instagram, who wrote: “It is with profound sorrow that we confirm the untimely passing of Jack Revill, known to many as Jackmaster”.

The statement added that Revill had passed away on Saturday morning (October 12) in Ibiza after sustaining the head injury.

“His family—Kate, Sean, and Johnny — are utterly heartbroken,” the statement continued. “While deeply touched by the overwhelming support from friends, colleagues, and fans, the family kindly requests privacy as they navigate the immense grief of this devastating loss.”

“Jack’s passion for music and his relentless drive to push creative boundaries through his work at the Numbers label and Rubadub Records in Glasgow, including discovering countless innovative artists, made him a beloved and pioneering figure in the electronic music community both in front of and behind the scenes.”

“His talent for blending genres and delivering electrifying DJs sets and productions earned him the respect and admiration of peers and fans across the globe. His legacy will continue to inspire, and his impact on the world of dance music will remain indelible.”

Revill was born in Glasgow in 1986 and by the age of 14, he was working in the city’s famed record shop Rubadub, where he picked up his Jackmaster moniker, in reference to the roots of Chicago house in the 1980s. At 17, he was a regular at the techno night Monox in the city.

His reputation as a DJ and performer grew quickly and he went on to co-found the record label and club night Numbers, among others. Known for his diversity across multiple genres, he picked up the ‘Breakthrough DJ’ award from DJ Magazine in 2010, and the following year was invited to curate a mix for FabricLive.

He continued to be rated among the best DJs in the world throughout the 2010s and earned a residency on BBC Radio 1 in 2014.

Jackmaster’s final show took place last month at Hï Ibiza.
