Jack Black’s ‘Lava Chicken’ song has arrived in ‘Minecraft’

A remixed version of Jack Black’s viral A Minecraft Movie hit ‘Steve’s Lava Chicken’ is now available in the popular online game.

Jack Black voices Steve in A Minecraft Movie and, as part of the film, performs a 34-second song about cooking chicken using lava. It was one of several breakout moments from the record-breaking adaptation and became the shortest ever Billboard chart hit back in April.

It also became the shortest ever UK Top 40 single when it landed at Number 21 on April 18’s chart.

Now a remixed version of the song has made its way into Minecraft. The 1.21.94 update went live on July 14 and, according to the patch notes, introduced Hyper Potions’ version of ‘Lava Chicken’ to the game. It can be played via a music disc which can be found by “defeating a baby Zombie riding a Chicken (AKA Chicken Jockey).”

The response from gamers has been mixed though. One fan called it “the best thing they’ve added in years,” while another said: “Just let it go”.

Despite poor reviews, the movie adaptation of Minecraft has become one of the biggest film of 2025 so far thanks to a number of viral moments.

However the film also inspired fierce debates about cinema etiquette after clips of audiences singing along to the film, throwing tubs of popcorn and generally losing their minds to the “chicken jockey” scene went viral across social media. Some cinemas issued warnings that “any form of anti-social behaviour, especially anything that may disturb other guests such as loud screaming, clapping and shouting will not be tolerated,” while Jack Black also surprised fans by turning up to a screening of A Minecraft Movie and asked people not to throw popcorn. In response, Warner Bros. announced  a string of “noisy” screenings.

In other news, Tony Hawk has revealed that he made sure the soundtrack to Pro Skater 3+4 featured the music of Fontaines D.C. and IDLES. “I’m not the only decider in these soundtracks but I did manage to throw in a couple of bands that I’m stoked on,” he explained.
