IU “drove through the night” to make her Washington D.C. concert after her flight was cancelled

South Korean singer-actress IU has opened up about how she nearly missed the Washington D.C. stop of her 2024 ‘HEREH’ world tour after her flight to the city was cancelled.

IU is currently on the North American leg of her 2024 ‘HEREH’ world tour, marking the first time she’s performing headlining shows in the US since her debut. Her most recent show was held in Washington D.C. earlier this week on July 22 at the Capital One Arena.

During the Washington D.C. gig, IU shared how she ended up getting to the concert after her flight from the previous stop in Atlanta was unexpectedly cancelled due to the global IT outage that occurred earlier this week.

“My flight got suddenly cancelled, and for the first time in my life, I drove – technically, the driver drove me – through the night for 10 hours on the highway,” she told the audience. “That was crazy. But as soon as I heard your cheers, I felt it was totally worth it.”

Following her concert in Washington D.C., the singer now has only three stops left on the tour’s North American leg: one on July 25 in Rosemont, Illinois, one on July 30 in Oakland, California and a final show in Los Angeles on August 2.

IU’s massive 2024 ‘HEREH’ world tour – originally titled ‘H.E.R’ – kicked off on March 2 at the KSPO Dome in Seoul, South Korea, where she played four concerts over two weekends, featuring special appearances from NewJeans, Park Bo-gum and more.

The tour is in support of IU’s most recently released project, her sixth mini-album titled ‘The Winning’ that released in late February this year. The album boasted two title tracks: ‘Shopper’ and ‘Holssi’. The accompanying music video for the former song was notably narrated and produced by DPR Ian, who also made an appearance.
