Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds announces ‘Last Flag’ video game

Night Street Games, the studio founded by Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynolds and his brother Mac, has announced its first title – Last Flag.

According to the Steam page, ”Night Street Games is an independent game studio on a mission to build multiplayer games crafted with heart. The studio’s first game, Last Flag, is a fun-first 5v5 shooter set in a 1970s-inspired game show.”

“Hide your flag. Find the enemy flag. Run it back, then defend for a minute to win it. Welcome to Last Flag: a fast-paced 5v5 shooter with showstopping contestants, set in a televised competition where strategy, teamwork, and chaos blend in the ultimate game of Capture The Flag,” reads the game’s description. Last Flag also features original music from Dan Reynolds.

Last Flag was announced last summer and is due to release later this year. A free demo launched in December and an open beta is now live, via Steam, which will run until March 2.

Reynolds first teased the project in 2021. “We’ve always talked about making a video game,” he explained. “It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever done. I’m making the whole soundtrack, I’m doing voices, I did all the rough sketches of characters, and then we brought in really great artists to make everything way better than I could possibly ever do.”

Explaining their decision to rework the classic game of Capture The Flag, Mac said: “We grew up playing Capture The Flag in the woods at night. I’ve thought about that experience a lot over the years.

“Last Flag is really more about hide-and-seek, strategy, and outsmarting your opponent. Capture the Flag comes first and shooter second,” he added via the Epic Games blog. “You don’t have to be a great shooter to participate in the game.”

Back in 2014, Imagine Dragons performed a Legend Of Zelda medley with iconic Nintendo composer Koji Kondo at The Game Awards. “I geeked out harder on that than when we played in front of [Paul] McCartney,” revealed Reynolds. Imagine Dragons’ music has also been used in trailers for the Nintendo Switch, and the band have written tracks for Starfield, League Of Legends and Netflix’s Arcane tv show.

Reynolds has also admitted to being late for his own gigs because he was so caught up in playing League Of Legends.

In other news, Jason Momoa has been announced as the lead of the upcoming Helldivers 2 movie adaptation.
