The son of former US President Joe Biden was pictured hanging out with the ‘Night, Blooming Jasmine’ artist backstage during the festival’s second weekend. When those photos went viral, a lot of fans assumed they were AI-generated, reasoning that Biden did not seem the type who’d enjoy an underground rap set.

However, Christian Thomas-Irving, aka CTi, later confirmed to Stereogum that the encounter did indeed happen, and TMZ also confirmed that it was real. Engineer Moustafax2 posted a selfie with Biden too, with Biden himself going on to address their meeting in a brief comment given late last month.

During an appearance on Andrew Callaghan’s All Gas No Brakes x Channel 5 event at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, Biden was asked by an audience member how he found Coachella, to which he replied: “Fakemink. All the way.”

It follows the 2024 revelation that Biden was a fan of Fleet Foxes, who ended up being brought into a trial in Delaware when it emerged he had played the band from his phone while receiving a lap dance.

He had been on trial for allegedly lying about his drug use when purchasing a firearm in 2018. He claimed to be sober at the time despite reports suggesting he was in the throes of a cocaine addiction.

Several of Biden’s ex-girlfriends have testified during the trial, including the exotic dancer Zoe Kestan. She spoke about their first meeting, in which she and another dancer gave Biden a lap dance in a private room at a Midtown Manhattan strip club in 2017. Kestan mentioned that Biden started playing Fleet Foxes on his phone and smoked something she assumed was crack cocaine. She also said that he was often withdrawing cash for drug deals.

“I felt really safe around him,” she said [via Politico].
