Here’s Doechii’s Fiery Response to Lip-Syncing Rumors About Her Grammys Performance: Watch

Doechii has something to say to anyone questioning the authenticity of her jaw-dropping performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

On Saturday (Feb. 15), the 26-year-old rap star addressed rumors suggesting she was lip-syncing during her innovative delivery of “Denial Is a River” and “Catfish” at the Feb. 2 ceremony in Los Angeles, where she also took home best rap album for Alligator Bites Never Heal.

“I can’t possibly get on here and say calmly or slow: y’all are stupid as hell — so slow!” Doechii said in a TikTok video, visibly frustrated, shaking her head.

Doechii’s explosive response came after a TikTok comment claimed she wasn’t rapping live during the performance. “Some parts of the live song you can see that she’s not saying anything and the song is still playing with her pre-record voice,” the user wrote.

She addressed the accusation in her video: “That is my DJ’s voice picking up on the lines that I can’t say because I was doing a somersault. That entire performance was live! I was sick as a dog with bronchitis and the flu, performing my a– off in a straddle on top of human men. You can hear my beads slapping the mic in the beginning. Worked my a– off to build the stamina for that, for y’all to play in my face. I don’t lip synch. Don’t ever f—ing play with me like that. Ever!”

The Florida native’s groundbreaking Grammys performance was ranked as the best of the night by Billboard. The rapper maximized her live slot with high-concept visuals — dueling clones, twitchy choreography, torn-away clothing, and sliding floors — while delivering breathless rhymes. She ripped through a medley of “Catfish” and “Denial is a River” with a ferocity no other performer at this year’s ceremony could match.

With Alligator Bites Never Heal winning best rap album, Doechii became only the third woman artist to ever take home the prestigious honor. Her streaming catalog surged following the Grammys, marking a huge moment for the rising Tampa MC.
