Karol G was the big winner at the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards with eight trophies including Global 200 Latin artist of the year and tour of the year. Her song “Qlona” with Peso Pluma won the awards for Hot Latin Song of the year; Hot Latin Song of the year, vocal event; and Streaming Song of the Year.
Bad Bunny received six awards including artist of the year, and his album Nadie Sabe lo que Va a Pasar Mañana was named Top Latin Album of the year and Latin Rhythm Album of the year, while his song “Mónaco” won sales song of the year. Peso Pluma also won six awards: In addition to the three with Karol G for the hit “Qlona,” he got Hot Latin Songs artist of the year, male; regional Mexican artist of the year, solo; and songwriter of the year.
None of the three were present at the awards ceremony, which was aired Sunday (Oct. 20) on Telemundo.
The ones who were present were Fuerza Regida, who got four awards including Regional Mexican album of the year for Pa Las Baby’s y Belikeada, as well as Regional Mexican artist of the year, duo or group, and Hot Latin Songs artist of the year, duo or group. “Thank you very much for always supporting us”, they said when they accepted one of the awards.
Also in attendance was Xavi, who won the coveted award for artist of the year, new. The young Mexican music star went up to the stage somewhat incredulous to accept his trophy. “I can’t believe it. I really was super excited just to be chosen, and I’m super grateful to everyone who supported us and believed in us from the beginning,” he said with a heavy sigh. “I’m getting sentimental, compadre, but really, thanks to all of you.”
In its 31st annual edition, the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards ceremony was produced by Telemundo and American Country Broadcast Inc. and hosted by Carmen Villalobos and Danilo Carrera at the Mediapro Studio in Miami Beach, Florida. It opened with a performance by Luis Alfonso, who sang his hits “Tequila con Cerveza” and “Chismofilia,” and included musical numbers by stars such as J Balvin, Yandel, Gloria Trevi, Maria Becerra, Grupo Niche, Fuerza Regida and Chencho Corleone, among others, before closing with the merengue classic “El Tiburón” by Proyecto Uno.
Three international icons received special awards: Pepe Aguilar was recognized with the Billboard Hall of Fame Award, J Balvin with the Billboard Spirit of Hope Award, and Alejandro Sanz with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Latin Billboard Music Awards are the only ones that recognize the most popular albums, songs and performers in Latin music, according to Billboard‘s weekly charts. This year’s awards will be presented in 49 categories spanning major Latin music genres, from Latin pop to tropical and Latin rhythm to regional Mexican. On it’s 31st annual edition, the ceremony was produced by Telemundo and American Country Broadcast Inc.
