Hear Diane Keaton’s First-Ever Solo Single, ‘First Christmas’

The Academy Award winner shows off her versatility with a wistful new holiday song

Diane Keaton is showing off a new side of herself this holiday season with her new single “First Christmas” — her first solo music recording ever.

“First Christmas” is a tender ballad about spending the holiday season alone after losing a lover. Keaton — who sang onscreen in Annie Hall and So It Goes — is an effective vocalist, offering an emotional performance over piano and strings from the Stockholm Symphony. The original song was co-written by Carole Bayer Sager and Jonas Myrin, with Myrin producing.

“When Carole and Jonas first played me ‘First Christmas,’ I got teary,” Keaton said in a statement. “It is such a beautiful sentiment, and I couldn’t wait to sing it. I’m very proud to be a part of this beautiful Christmas song, and I hope you enjoy it.”

Last year, Keaton released a collaborative song with the rest of her Book Club: The Next Chapter cast called “Anywhere With You.”

Five decades into her career, Keaton has been busier than ever the last few years. This year, she starred in the film Summer Camp alongside Kathy Bates and Alfre Woodard, as well as the British comedy Arthur’s Whisky. She also has up to four movies in pre-production at the moment, including the film The Making Of alongside Blake Lively and Richard Gere. No word on if we’re getting a full album of original music from Keaton — yet.
