Hear Calvin Harris Tease a New Country-Oriented Song Featuring His Own Vocals

Calvin Harris is getting ready to release a country-oriented song, featuring himself on vocals.

Today (March 5), the Scottish superstar producer posted a 30-second clip of himself singing a new song called “Smoke the Pain Away.” In the video, occasionally filmed in soft focus, Harris sits on a chair and plays an acoustic guitar to the foot-stomper, with the clip then cutting to show him (and his long hair) behind the mic.

“Too late I’ve been up for days,” he sings. “I can’t even see straight, no I can’t smoke the pain away.” Watch the clip below.

In the caption, Harris writes “it’s coming” of the song. The release will be Harris’ first release since “Free,” his 2024 track with frequent collaborator Ellie Goulding. That song followed the release of 96 months, a 2024 compilation featuring many of Harris’ biggest hits.

“Smoke the Pain Away” has early support from Harris’ wife, BBC 1 Radio presenter Vick Hope, who’s in the comment section saying “Those vocals…YEEEESSSSS!!!” with an attendant fire emoji. The future is wide open for the dance music legend, who does not currently have any scheduled performances for 2025.

“Smoke the Pain Away” is far from the first time a dance artist has crossed over into country, with Avicii famously building the bridge with his 2013 all-time smash “Wake Me Up.” Diplo followed suit with a 2020 album and 2024 mixtape of country music released under his given name, Thomas Wesley, while a list of other producers have made one-off country/dance singles. It does, however, remain to be seen if Harris’ new song contains any dance elements at all, or stays firmly in the country lane.
