Hayley Williams confirms “racist country singer” in her song is Morgan Wallen

Hayley Williams has revealed the “racist country singer” from her song ‘Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party’ is Morgan Wallen.

In an interview with the New York Times, the Paramore frontwoman discussed her surprise solo album, ‘Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party’. There, hosts Jon Caramanica and Joe Coscarelli asked her about the identity of the “racist country singer” from the title track. In the song, Williams sardonically sings about being “the biggest star / At this racist country singer’s bar”.

When asked to “name names”, Williams responded: “It could be a couple but I’m always talking about Morgan Wallen, I don’t give a shit”. She then dared Wallen to “meet me at Whole Foods, bitch – I don’t care.”

The singer previously named Wallen’s Nashville bar as her least favourite country music singer-owned establishment, but never explicitly confirmed his bar was the subject of her song.

Last July, Williams surprise-dropped 17 solo tracks on her website for a limited amount of time. The songs were only accessible with a 16-digit code, which users could obtain from purchasing an item from her Good Dye Young collection.

NME reviewed ‘Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party’ before its official release, giving it five stars and writing: “As with almost every era of Hayley Williams’ career, this new release has come with questions about the future of Paramore. The determined lyrics on the tender ‘I Won’t Quit On You’ should be all the reassurance worried fans need, but if that’s not enough, there’s plenty in this brilliant, swaggering new chapter to be excited about.

“These songs might be about missed second chances, but Williams is certainly making the most of hers.”

Williams then officially released the album on August 28, marking her first release as an independent artist following her record deal with Warner/Atlantic ending.

She would later reveal that although Paramore aren’t broken up, they are on a break: “We always take huge breaks. In order for us to metabolise shit that we go through as people, it takes the amount of time it takes between albums.”
