Haim announce new comeback single ‘Relationships’

Haim have announced their comeback single ‘Relationships’ and have shared the track’s artwork which possibly features a nod to Nicole Kidman.

The sister trio – comprised of Este Haim, Alana Haim and Danielle Haim – have been hinting at their return to music this past month starting with an Instagram post from Danielle’s 36th birthday party. The caption of the post read: “(ha)i’m single.. haim single?”.

They then followed that with a video clip in which all three members can be seen dancing to M83‘s hit single ‘Midnight City’ with a voiceover saying: “We are back baby, we are fucking back.”

Last week, the band shared another video clip of them in a bathroom dancing and singing along to an unreleased song. “I hear a voice in my head and it keeps asking why am I in this relationship / Baby how can I explain when an innocent mistake turns into 17 days / Fucking relationships,” sings Danielle over a breezy pop beat.

Now, Haim have announced that ‘Relationships’ will be their next single. The single’s artwork sees all three women standing outside in the sun looking free and happy.

The photo may be an homage to Nicole Kidman’s viral 2001 photos, which many have claimed to be of the actress leaving her lawyer’s office after signing papers to divorce her then husband Tom Cruise. Kidman has since addressed the photos and told British GQ that the meme photos “was not me. That was from a film; that wasn’t real life.”

“‘Relationships’ – Our next single. You want it?? Pre-save it,” read the caption of Haim’s post. At the time of writing, no official release date has been announced for the single but you can visit here to pre-save/pre-add the song.

The track will mark their first release since their 2023 single ‘Home‘ which featured on the Barbie soundtrack. That same year, Haim also celebrated the 10th anniversary of their debut album ‘Days Are Gone‘, which saw them perform a massive London headline show at All Points East, which NME said in a five-star review was a “return” to their “spiritual home”, with the band having credited the English capital and the UK as “the first place to ever embrace us so we actually call this home”.

They also reflected on 10 years of ‘Days Are Gone’ with NME, sharing that the record “completely changed our lives”.

When asked about their future plans at the time, the trio also shared that they had “been working with some cool people”. “We played  Jai Paul earlier; we might’ve been in the studio with him,” they teased. The band added that they “may or may not have been in the studio with him” and “cannot confirm or deny”.

Their last album ‘Women In Music Pt. III’ was released in the summer of 2020. The record was awarded five stars by NME was described as an “experimental and emotionally charged album” and “their best yet”.

It added: “By breaking from what the world might expect from them and letting themselves do whatever the hell they want, they have produced a record that’s experimental, soothing and vulnerable; it’s a thing of great beauty.”

In other news, Djo recently covered Haim‘s single ‘Gasoline’ while visiting Australia’s Triple J to record a track for the station’s ‘Like A Version’ series.

Haim also recently performed a cover of Fleetwood Mac‘s ‘Dreams’ with Emma Stone at Saturday Night Live’s SNL50 afterparty.
