Green Day have celebrated two years of the ‘Saviors’ era by releasing a new video for ‘Suzie Chapstick’ – check it out below.
The band announced their 14th studio album in October 2023 with the lead single ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’, eventually releasing the record the following January. It went on to be nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Album and spawned an 87-date world tour.
Earlier this week, they marked the two-year anniversary of the ‘Saviors’ campaign, writing on Instagram: “Soooo it’s pretty hard to believe it’s been two years since we kicked off the ‘Saviors’ run. What a trip!!”
They have described the ‘Suzie Chapstick’ video as “a look back at allllll the chaos (and everything in between)”, and it documents the entire two-year period, from studio sessions to early music video shoots, as well as behind-the-scenes rehearsals and footage from their long stint on the road promoting the record. NME awarded ‘Saviors’ four stars, writing: “There’s some serendipity in the band hitting the road to celebrate 30 years of ‘Dookie’ and 20 years of ‘American Idiot’ later this summer. Not only does ‘Saviors’ spiritually bridge the gap between the two, but it uses the palette of the best of the band to tell us something else. Look to the artwork: ‘Dookie’ was a cheeky carpet-bombing of shit, ‘American Idiot’ was a hand grenade, ‘Saviors’ is an act of defiance met with a shrug; a band saying, ‘We’re still here and we’re still fucked’.”
Elsewhere, the band shared the trailer for their new road trip comedy film New Years Rev in September. It sees a band named the Analog Dogs, played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust, set out to drive from Kansas to California to meet their heroes.
Inspired by their early touring days, the film follows three friends who embark on a road trip in the mistaken belief that they have secured a Green Day support slot at a New Year’s Eve show. It received its world premiere in Toronto on September 12.
Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong recently joined Dua Lipa for a cover of ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends’ on stage in San Francisco, while they have used their own shows to take further jabs at the Donald Trump administration.
Their classic 2004 album ‘American Idiot’, meanwhile, has been named as the most successful rock album of the 21st century so far, according to the UK’s Official Charts Company, beating out records by Linkin Park, The Darkness and Muse.
