Last night (April 23), the band took to social media to announce that they’ll be honoured at a Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony next week (May 1). The ceremony will be broadcast live and for free via the Walk of Fame’s website.

The band’s star will be located at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard, which is adjacent to the legendary Amoeba Music outlet. The band’s star will be the 2,810th to be handed out since the famed tourist attraction opened in 1960.

The band wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “All the way from the Boulevard of Broken Dreams to Hollywood Boulevard – we’re celebrating our new star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 1st!!!” This is going to be one to remember… come celebrate with us!”

The honour comes shortly after the band wrapped their two headlining slots at Coachella 2025. During the first weekend of Coachella, they altered lyrics from ‘Jesus of Suburbia’ to comment on the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.

During the performance, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong sang, “Runnin’ away from pain like the kids from Palestine/Tales from another broken home,” replacing the original line, “Runnin’ away from pain when you’ve been victimised.”

Following the set, a mini-feud erupted between fans of Charli XCX and Green Day on social media. Tensions rose after Green Day closed out the main stage on day two of Coachella, with Charli performing right before them. At an afterparty, Charli XCX ruffled feathers by donning a “Miss Should Be Headliner” sash, which was interpreted as a dig towards Green Day.

Fans of Charli began championing the musician, saying she should’ve headlined over Green Day off the back of ‘Brat’s success, while Green Day fans argued they deserved the headline sport due to their legendary career.

In response, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong sported a ‘Brat’ cap during weekend two’s performance, while drummer Tré Cool wore an “Actual Headliner” sash, all in good jest. Charli has since said she’s “obsessed” with their responses, seemingly ending the “beef”. Charli XCX has also declared the end of ‘Brat Summer’, passing the torch to a number of other musicians.

Prior to their Coachella sets, Green Day shared a surprise new single called ‘Smash It Like Belushi’ and announced a deluxe reissue of ‘Saviors‘, their Number One album that was released in 2024.

In a four star review of ‘Saviors, NME said: “There’s also some serendipity in the band hitting the road to celebrate 30 years of ‘Dookie’ and 20 years of ‘American Idiot’ later this summer. Not only does ‘Saviors’ spiritually bridge the gap between the two, but it uses the palette of the best of the band to tell us something else.”

‘Saviors (édition de luxe)’ will be released on May 23 and you can pre-order it here.
