(G)I-DLE announce rebrand with new name, two new albums

(G)I-DLE have announced a rebrand, making their comeback with a new name.

Last night (May 1), the K-pop girl group – who are celebrating their seventh anniversary – revealed the name change through their official social media channels, as well as a Naver report.

Moving forward, the band will be known i-dle. It is reported that the now-removed (G) in their name was previously meant to signify “girls”, and that part of its removal comes from them not wanting to be restricted by gender norms.

Additionally, i-dle have announced two new mini-albums. The first is due to arrive later today at 6pm KST/9am GMT. They’ve also shared a teaser for a track titled ‘for (G)’, which appears to be a remix of their debut track ‘LATATA’.

The second mini-album they’ve announced is also due to arrive this month, on May 19.

The rebrand and upcoming releases come after CUBE Entertainment in April confirmed that the girl group would be making a comeback in May after all five members renewed their contracts with the label late last year.

Their last release was July 2024’s ‘I Sway’, their seventh mini-album. The record featured lead single ‘Klaxon’. ‘I Sway’ was also the follow-up to their January full-length record ‘[2]’, the album that won them the Record of the Year Grand Prize at the 2024 MMAs.

In the time since their last release music together, Thai member Minnie made her solo debut earlier this year with the mini-album ‘Her’. Minnie enlisted bandmate Yuqi for B-side song ‘Drive U Crazy’, while NCT’s Ten lent his vocals to ‘Obsession’.

Meanwhile, Chinese bandmate Yuqi also dropped a digital single titled ‘Radio (Dum-Dum)’ in March.
