Ghost‘s Tobias Forge has spoken out about his leaked solo album, ‘Passiflora’.
Last year, it was reported that someone had purchased Forge’s solo record for a whopping US$5,434. ‘Passiflora’ was written by Forge before starting Ghost, and has never been officially released.
Speaking to Chaoszine (via Blabbermouth), Forge said of the record: “I remember that when I wrote the songs and I had recorded them, I was a little bit irritated that I had not written them in a key that was ideal for my singing. It’s amateur mistakes.
“There are some songs on Opus [Ghost’s debut album Opus Eponymous] that are like that,” he added. “I should have written them in another key. I should have detuned them to more fully… And it’s not too late; I can do that.”
He went on to call ‘Passiflora’ a “super-ambitious record”, adding: “I was so filled with emotions and creativity. I had a real vision for that record. I had a real vision for that band. It literally really didn’t go anywhere. So when that happens… If you write a love letter and that just disappears into the void, you would just try to distance yourself from it as soon as possible and, and that’s what I felt.”
NME spoke to Forge earlier this year about Ghost’s upcoming sixth record, ‘Skeletá‘, due April 25 via Loma Vista. The announcement came as the Swedish occult metal band – led by Tobias Forge – began teasing that a new frontman ‘Papa V Perpetua’ was on the way, following on from Papa Emeritus IV.
He shed some light on the new frontman, saying: “I can’t really make a profile description of who he is just yet, [but with Ghost] we have our real band story, and then we have our lore.
“The lore serves as a humoristic commentary, but it also follows the subjects presented on the records. As opposed to the public misunderstanding that it is all about Satan, it’s actually all about being alive. It’s a very simple but hugely broad concept… I think the characters are just searching for a sense of purpose.”
He also hinted at a shift to film, saying: “I have always been almost equally interested in film as I’ve been in music.
“Earlier in my life, I saw a venture down that route as something that was going to take away from my music and something that would require me to start studying. Now, though, I have dipped my feet a little into the film world, and I’m beginning to recognise where there might be a spot for me. A place where my USP can be valuable. I believe that I can go down that route.”
In other news, Black Sabbath have announced ‘The Final Show’ in Birmingham with Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Ghost and more.
