Gelo and Lil Wayne ‘Swerve, Bend That Corner’ on ‘Tweaker’ Remix

At the end of Gelo‘s music video for his debut single “Tweaker,” the burgeoning artist teased his next single, “Can You Please?” But before he moves onto something new, the athlete-turned-rapper LiAngelo Ball locked in for the official “Tweaker” remix, which gets an assist from Lil Wayne.

On his verse, Wayne raps, “This for the tweakers, baby, you see this, baby/Wheezy F., and the F is for features, baby/I went from the bleachers, baby, to beaches, baby/To each his own, gotta own, I can’t lease it, baby.”

The remix arrives shortly after Wayne announced his upcoming album Tha Carter VI, which Rolling Stone confirmed is scheduled to arrive on June 6.

Gelo getting a co-sign from a rapper of Wayne’s legend and caliber is a promising sign for where his career might be heading off the court. In 2023, Wayne told Rolling Stone about his longevity providing him with the opportunity to go head-to-head with the rising generations of rap artists who grew up listening to him.

“The motivation isn’t to show them that I’m still that dude, which I am. The motivation is to show them why I’m still that dude,” Wayne said. “That’s the motivation, because I want them to hopefully get something from that and they continue to still be whoever the dude or woman they are.”

Shortly after “Tweaker” arrived in January, Rolling Stone‘s Andre Gee noted that it could be a glimpse into the future of rap, writing: “Several times a year, hip-hop gets a viral moment that some see as harmless fun, some perceive as the decline of hip-hop tastemaking, and others view as a little of both. And while those aforementioned artists’ breakout songs represented an eye to the future, ‘Tweaker’ may just be a pastiche one-off — though LiAngelo’s teased a second single coming soon. Regardless, the song going from a viral would-be joke to the catalyst for a record deal shows where the industry is going.”
