G-Dragon returns with ‘Power’, the K-pop star’s first new solo music in seven years

K-pop star G-Dragon has returned with his first solo music in seven years – listen to the single ‘Power’ below.

The South Korean singer-songwriter and rapper has partnered with independent record label Empire to release the new track.

“‘Power’ manifests the essence of music,” G-Dragon explained of the song. “I express myself through music. This marks the beginning of a new era and I hope to inspire people who listen to my music.”

Ghazi, founder and CEO of Empire, added: “G-Dragon is a cultural force that has laid the foundation for K-pop’s global dominance. This partnership reinforces our mission at Empire to work alongside artists that will shape the future of global music.”

The infectious and energetic ‘Power’ was co-written by Tommy ‘TB Hits’ Brown, Theron Thomas, Steven Franks and G-Dragon. It arrives with a playful official music video – watch above.

Fans have been told to “stay tuned for more to come” from G-Dragon. Per a press release, he is scheduled to embark on a run of live shows across the globe in support of this new chapter.

The single marks G-Dragon’s first solo offering since his 2017 EP ‘Kwon Ji Yong’, which topped the Billboard World Albums chart and Japan’s Oricon digital chart – making him the first Korean artist to do so.

He launched his solo career in 2009 with his debut studio album ‘Heartbreaker’. He later released further solo material in 2012 and 2013 with ‘One Of A Kind’ and ‘Coup d’Etat’, respectively.

G-Dragon left his previous label YG Entertainment (BLACKPINK, TREASURE) last year after two decades. There, he appeared in BigBang – who became the first K-pop act to get a Korean-language album on the Billboard 200.

In other news, it has been announced that G-Dragon will perform at this year’s MAMA Awards. It’ll be his first appearance at the ceremony in nine years, after BigBang’s 2015 performance at the event.

The artist recently teased his solo return by sharing a cryptic teaser online. He had been talking about his imminent comeback since early 2023, later saying that he was “looking forward to” sharing his new record.
