K-pop girl group fromis_9 have released their new single ‘From’, ahead of their departure from Pledis Entertainment later this month.
Last month, Pledis Entertainment announced that its exclusive contract with fromis_9 would be expiring on December 31 this year, and that it and the group had come to an amicable conclusion not to renew the contract.
Yesterday (December 23), the girl group unveiled their fan-dedicated digital single ‘From’ to express their gratitude to their fans, known as flover, as well as mark the end of their time with Pledis Entertainment. The new track is composed and produced by member Song Ha-young.
“Deeper and deeper, all night long / This dreamlike time never ends / It was special because it was us, every moment / Follow me, in the same direction and speed / Walk with me, it’s not over / The day we spoke of forever, stay right there,” they sing in the chorus.
fromis_9 were formed in 2017 through the Mnet survival show Idol School and debuted in January 2018 with their first mini-album ‘To.Heart’ under Stone Music Entertainment.
The group joined Pledis Entertainment in August 2021 following a change in management. Member Jang Gyu-ri left fromis_9 a year later to pursue her acting career, having opted not to sign a new contract with Pledis Entertainment.
In their time under the label, the girl group released singles like ‘Talk & Talk’, ‘DM’, ‘Stay This Way’ and ‘#menow. Their most recent release prior to ‘From’ was their August 2024 single album ‘Supersonic’, which included its title track of the same name and B-sides ‘Beat the Heat’ and ‘Take a Chance’. NME has since named ‘Supersonic’ one of the 25 best K-pop songs of 2024.
