In the sketch, in December 2000, the rapper, Memphis Bleek, and Beanie Siegel accompany Ferrell as his lounge singer character Robert Goulet for the rollout of his “rap-and-roll” album ‘Murder In the Make-Believe Ballroom’.

In the dress rehearsal, which took place hours before it went live, Steele revealed the rapper’s request.

“I get there between dress and air, and Jay-Z goes, ‘Can we get a real joint?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, you’re Jay-Z. Of course you can’. I got that joint. Jay-Z used it on air,” Steele told Late Night With Seth Meyers. “The whole studio smelled like pot for the rest of the night.”

Steele recenty featured in the Netflix documentary Will & Harper which focuses on the friendship between Ferrell and Steele. The two met on Saturday Night Live during the ‘90s and Steele came out as transgender 30 years into their friendship.

Ferrell also recently returned to the programme for its 50th anniversary concert, performing a comedy version of Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’.

SNL50: The Homecoming Concert preceded yesterday’s (February 16) three-hour 50th Anniversary special, and as well as Ferrell featured Post Malone performing with the remaining members of Nirvana, David Byrne joining Robyn for a rendition of ‘Dancing On My Own’, Jack White performing ‘Seven Nation Army’ and Lady Gaga teaming up with Andy Samberg for a surprise medley of Lonely Island hits.

During the anniversary episode itself, superstars of the past and present including Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter sang ‘Homeward Bound’ together and Paul McCartney made his fifth appearance on the show to perform a medley of songs from The Beatles’ ‘Abbey Road’.

Meanwhile, a woman who alleged she was sexually assaulted when she was 13-years-old by Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs in 2000 recently voluntarily withdrew her lawsuit.
