Florence Road share breezy new single ‘Break The Girl’

Florence Road have shared the breezy new single ‘Break The Girl’ – check it out below.

In the last few months, the Dublin four-piece – made up of vocalist Lily Aron, guitarist Emma Brandon, bassist Ailbhe Barry and drummer Hannah Kelly – have cemented themselves as one of the most exciting up-and-coming acts on the live scene.

They opened for Olivia Rodrigo in their hometown and played a packed show at The Great Escape following the June release of their major label debut mixtape ‘Fall Back’, with the latest single from the album already a fan favourite at gigs.

‘Break The Girl’ sees Aron break into an infectious chorus of: “You break the girl/ And take the pearl/Like it’s good for nothing/You say you love/But then you don’t show her any of it” overtop of hazy indie riffs.

The band are set to play dates in Dublin (October 2 and November 30) and Cardiff (September 24) before joining Royel Otis on tour in Australia. You can visit here for tickets to their UK and Ireland dates, and here for the Australian trek.

The new single comes accompanied by a Benji Gershon-directed music video, shot in their hometown of Bray. You can check out the visuals, as well as their upcoming live dates, below.

Ahead of its release, the band spoke to NME about how ‘Break The Girl’ came together, describing playing while supporting Rodrigo a “full circle moment” after covering her early on in their career.

“I was talking about the conversation I’d had the previous night with one of my best friends, about her relationship with her mother and all her feelings,” Aron said of the new track. “I couldn’t stop thinking about it – it was really weighing me down. I think we wrote the song in an hour, where we talked and chatted about feelings, and it was just there.

“The meaning is quite sad and reflective, but there’s these ‘la la las’ and the contrast of going, ‘I’m just gonna keep singing cos there’s nothing else I can do!’ I really love it.”
