Finn Wolfhard shares update on The Replacements biopic he’s been working on with his dad

Finn Wolfhard has given NME an exclusive update on his planned biopic of Minnesota post-punk band The Replacements.

Last October, it was reported that the Stranger Things star was adapting a biopic about the group with his father and producer Rich Peete. The trio are adapting Bob Mehr’s best-selling biography Trouble Boys: The True Story Of The Replacements for the big screen. The Wolfhards were reported to be working on the screenplay together.

In a new interview with NME’s Alex Flood to discuss his album ‘Fire From The Hip’, he talked about the status of the project and his vision for the story.

“We’ve sent it off to the director and really, really wanna make it as soon as possible,” he said. “That band means so much to me. I would love to be able to tell their story in the most cool and least Bohemian Rhapsody way. No shade to that movie, but they’re the antithesis of that kind of thing. I want to make something that’s maybe a little weirder.”

You can read the full interview here and watch it in the video below. The actor dives deeper into the inspirations behind his latest music release, and reflects on a failed audition to play George Harrison in Sam Mendes’ Beatles biopics.

In addition to acting and performing music, Wolfhard has worked behind the scenes on feature films recently. Last year saw the release of Hell Of A Summer, which he co-directed with Billy Bryk. He also produced and starred in Crash Land, a comedy film that debuted at SXSW in March.

In January, Finn Wolfhard hosted Saturday Night Live, and had his opening monologue crashed by Stranger Things co-stars Caleb McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo.
