Fans react to Charli XCX’s awkward Howard Stern interview: “Seems like she lowkey can’t stand him, icon”

Charli XCX‘s recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show has drawn mixed reactions online.

In one awkward clip that has made the rounds on social media, Stern asks the ‘Brat‘ singer: “You have a boyfriend?”, and she replies unenthusiastically: “I have a fiancé.” After a brief discussion about why she opts to wear two rings, Stern says: “Damn, I was looking for an exclusive. Can you just say you’re married now?”

XCX then dryly says: “Sure. I’m married.” The clip, which was shared on Stern’s TikTok account, is now flooded with comments from her fans. “Her energy would so be me if I was forced to talk to Howard Stern,” wrote one.

Many others shared that sentiment, writing: “I hate Howard Stern I LOVE her subtle tude to him the entire time,” and “I love that she seems like she lowkey can’t stand him, icon.”

Fans commenting on YouTube were equally unimpressed. Underneath a clip titled: ‘Charli xcx and Howard Stern Bond Over Being Anti-Bra,” Stern tells XCX: “This whole idea that you are anti-bra, I can’t tell you how long I have been against bras.

“I don’t like them either. I know I’m a dude, but you coming out as a celebrity and saying, ‘Look I don’t like wearing a bra, I’m against bras.’ It’s fabulous and I want to thank you for that.”

“Well, you’re welcome Howard,” XCX replied. “I feel like maybe our kind of reasoning behind not being into bras, you know I think we might be coming from slightly different perspectives.”

The responses in the comments section were largely negative. “Howard stern giving incel,” wrote one listener, with others adding: “The Show needs to do better than this,” and “The guest was great, but she clearly couldn’t stand Howard.”

Elsewhere on the show, XCX revealed that she was “very impressed” by the recent impression of her on Saturday Night Live. The singer had a skit written about her on a recent episode of the US sketch show, which saw cast member Bowen Yang cosplay as her for a ‘Brat’-inspired performance.

Airing over the weekend, the episode saw Yang transform into the ‘360’ singer to host the ‘Talk Talk’ show. In fitting with the hit album’s aesthetic, the set was filled with bright green props, and the actor took on a British accent to talk with Troye Sivan – played by Sarah Sherman.

“I love Bowen and I honestly think he did a great job,” she said. “I was very impressed with the hair texture, actually. I thought it was a really good wig. It was good, it was cool.”

She continued: “I think SNL is iconic,” Charli said. “Troye and I, we had an inkling it was coming and so we were very excited about it.”

Tomorrow (October 8), Stern will interview current Vice President and 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, who XCX endorsed with her viral “kamala IS brat” post. To her surprise, the tweet went viral and was adopted by Harris’s campaign team, leading to a strange collision of worlds when CNN attempted to explain the concept of ‘Brat’, live on air.

“To be on the right side of democracy, the right side of women’s rights, is hugely important to me,” the singer later explained. “I’m happy to help to prevent democracy from failing forever.
