Fall Out Boy found the cure to growing older: celebrating the past in all its glory. In honor of their major label debut, From Under the Cork Tree, turning 20, the band will release an anniversary edition of the album, complete with remastered tracks and special box sets. The special edition vinyl, CD, and digital versions will be released on October 17.
Along with the celebratory news, Fall Out Boy finally shared their cover of “Start Today” from New York hardcore outfit Gorilla Biscuits. The track initially appeared on the soundtrack for Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland video game from 2005. Since then, it’s become a fan-favorite from the band’s breakout year, but has notably been unavailable on streaming platforms until today.
The 3LP Deluxe Box, 2CD Deluxe Box, and Super Deluxe Digital will include a mix of acoustic versions, remixes, live recordings, B-sides, and even special tour memorabilia. Each box set will also feature an exclusive letter from bassist Pete Wentz, and unique bonus items like a “Dance, Dance” prom photo and a comic book cover illustration drawn from the “A Little Less Than Sixteen Candles, A Little More Than ‘Touch Me’” music video.
With the 2005 release of From Under the Cork Tree, Fall Out Boy’s punkish pop hooks went mainstream and took the early-aughts emo scene to a new echelon. Cork Tree debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 100 chart, earned the band a Best New Artist Grammy nomination, and produced hit songs like “Sugar We’re Going Down” and “Dance, Dance.” Beyond its commercial success, the album became a seminal pop-punk record and a monument of its time. Earlier this year, Rolling Stone named the album one of the top of the 21st century and noted Wentz for “the kind of lyrical prowess that would go on to inspire Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space.’”
