English Teacher have announced a new remix album featuring Fontaines D.C. DJs, Working Men’s Club and more.
Comprising 13 remixes and reworks of their 2024 Mercury Prize-winning debut album ‘This Could Be Texas’, the LP is set to drop this Friday (October 10) on Island Records.
Other acts who put their spin on the ‘This Could Be A Remix Album’ include Sherelle, Daniel Avery, Water From Your Eyes and Baxter Dury.
“So grateful that some of our favourite contemporary artists and friends were up for doing this with us x,” the band said of their forthcoming release.
English Teacher recently supported Fontaines D.C. for their show in Newcastle in July. Speaking ahead of the slot they told NME, they would “love to” work with the band in the future.
They have had a huge 12 months with their critically acclaimed album earning a glowing five-star review from NME and later bagged the Number Three spot on our 50 best albums of 2024 list. Their track ‘Albert Road’ was also named the sixth-best song of the year.
It also went on to win the prestigious Mercury Prize award last year – beating off competition from Beth Gibbons, CMAT, Charli XCX and more.
At the time vocalist Lily Fontaine said: “Look, mum,” and explained that they didn’t expect to win: “We didn’t really plan this far.”
She added: ”My mum did the artwork [for the album] so I want to give a special thanks to her.”
They were also nominated for Best New Artist at this year’s BRIT Awards, where they spoke about forthcoming new material in an interview you can view above. Bassist Nicholas Eden told NME: “We are writing, but it’s individual at the minute. We’ll get together in the next week or so and throw our stuff at each other.”
Their comments follow on from further hints at new material the members shared in a separate interview with NME in 2024. Here, guitarist Lewis Whiting said that English Teacher had “got some writing” to do in between their support shows with IDLES and their 2024 UK headline tour last November. Eden also teased a new song, describing it as “an amalgamation of every single track on this [first] album”.
They have already begun dropping hints of new material with fans too, playing a new track called ‘Billboards’ on tour last year.
The band are set to hit the road for a UK tour next month, which includes two shows at London’s Roundhouse. Visit here for tickets, and find a full list of tour dates here.
