Empire Of The Sun have announced a huge London gig at the iconic Old Royal Naval College.
The Australian pop duo released their comeback ‘Ask That God’ – their first studio album in eight years – last July. They have since returned to the touring circuit, with upcoming dates in the US, Mexico, Brazil and Columbia.
However, earlier today (February 20), Empire Of The Sun announced their return to London after six years with a special concert at the Old Royal Naval College on August 2. The show is under Labyrinth at the Thames, an ongoing series of concerts.
“LONDON!! It’s time to Ask That God! We meet again… it’s been far too long!” they wrote on Instagram.
“We are all conduits, gathering experiences. It’s time for us to share this music with you, the past, the future, the flesh, the spirit, melded into one. Blessings and see you soon. Empire of the Sun.”
Pre-sales for tickets will start on February 27 at 10am GMT – click here to sign-up before it launches.
Nick Castleman, founder of Labyrinth, said in a press statement: “Labyrinth on the Thames is honoured to be hosting Empire of the Sun’s return to London after 6 years!
“Their music is truly timeless and is the soundtrack to so many memories. Their new Live show, set against the Thames riverside and the City of London skyline, will be one of the spectacles of the summer for London.”
Empire Of The Sun’s Nick Littlemore previously said of ‘Ask That God’: “It has been a journey unlike any other that Empire Of The Sun has undertaken. We always ‘go there’ when it comes to exploration of both the self and the outside world.
“This body of work represents the greatest shift in consciousness our world has ever seen and that’s reflected in the music.”
Among their upcoming US dates is a slot at Californian festival Just Like Heaven, which will also feature the first Rilo Kiley performance in over 17 years.
The festival – which was spearheaded by Coachella and Day N Vegas organisers Goldenvoice – will return to Brookside at The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA on Saturday, May 10. Tickets are available here.
In a recent interview with NME, Empire Of The Sun’s Luke Steele recalled his experience writing music for Beyoncé in 2011.
“That was a beautiful moment because I went to write with an amazing producer, Jeff Bhasker. She only needed one more song to finish her album, ‘4’.
“I suggested: ‘Why don’t we write a song about her talking about Jay-Z? About how he drives too fast, smokes too much, and does all these things, but I’d rather die young than live my life without you’. It was a concept she loved straight away. There’s probably no greater singer around than Beyoncé.”
“I’ve never met her, but I worked with Jay-Z on ‘The Blueprint 3’ and been to dinner with him, so I’ve had a run-in with The Carters! [Laughs] We got a thing going! I’m waiting for a call for the next tunes! Headline: ‘Beyoncé – Steele’s ready!’”
