The bill for the Las Vegas festival includes Rilo Kiley, Jawbreaker, Minus The Bear, Pedro The Lion, and Superchunk
The emo/indie rock festival Best Friends Forever is returning to Dowtown Las Vegas Events Center October 10 through the 12 with a packed bill that includes Rilo Kiley, Jawbreaker, Minus The Bear, Pedro The Lion, Superchunk, and the final live appearance by emo icons Mineral.
Mineral reunited in 2014 after a 16-year hiatus but have been completely inactive since a one-off at Furnace Fest in 2021. They had no plans to perform again until the offer came in for Best Friends Forever. “Over the years the band has come into and out of our lives in phases,” Mineral lead singer Chris Simpson told Pitchfork. “Lately we’ve been feeling like maybe it was done and had been adequately and organically wrapped up, but we’re delighted for the opportunity to put a more thoughtful and intentional bow on what has been one of the more passionate and meaningful endeavors of our individual and collective lives.”
Rilo Kiley, meanwhile, have just reunited following a 17-year hiatus. They kick off their tour on May 5 at the Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo, California. “Planning this reunion over these past months has been like reconnecting with family. We haven’t missed a beat,” Rilo Kiley bassist Pierre de Reeder said in a statement. “The stakes are only to have a good time, to revel in this nostalgia. Getting to revisit and celebrate the music from that special time of our lives while experiencing it alongside a lot of people that lived it with us back when, and new folks alike.”
Several bands on the Best Friends Forever Bill are going to play classic albums in their entirety, including Minus The Bear (Menos el Oso), Cursive (Domestica and The Ugly Organ), and Bear vs. Shark (Terrorhawk).
Festivals catering to the same audience as Best Friends Forever have become quite popular over the past few years. The biggest one is When We Were Young, which takes place in Las Vegas just one weekend after Best Friends Forever. That bill includes a Panic! at the Disco reunion, Blink-182, Weezer, Avril Lavigne, the Offspring, All Time Low, and the Used.
