‘El Mal’ From ‘Emilia Pérez’ Wins Best Original Song at 2025 Golden Globes

Among two songs nominated from the Spanish-language musical Emilia Pérez, “El Mal” was declared the best original song – motion picture at Sunday’s (Jan. 5) 2025 Golden Globe Awards.

The award went to the French married couple of singer/songwriter Camille and composer Clement Ducol, along with Emilia Pérez director Jacques Audiard.

“This is such an American experience,” Camille — who was the only one of the three honorees to speak onstage — marveled to big laughs after making her way to the stage through tables filled with megawatt celebrities at The Beverly Hilton Hotel. “Songs are butterflies,” she went on, “and we need butterflies, even if it’s to denounce corruption in the world.”

Camille also thanked Emilia Pérez stars Karla Sofía Gascón and Zoe Saldaña (who had earlier in the evening won the award for best performance by a female actor in a supporting role in any motion picture) for bringing “El Mal” to life in the film. “Zoe and Karla: ‘El Mal’ wouldn’t be what it is without your performance,” Camille said. “You just … shake the house and shake our souls. Salud.”

“El Mal” triumphed over another Emilia Pérez song, “Mi Camino,” as well as “Beautiful That Way” from The Last Showgirl (music & lyrics by Andrew Wyatt, Miley Cyrus and Lykke Zachrisson); “Compress / Repress” from Challengers (music & lyrics by Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross and Luca Guadagnino); “Forbidden Road” from Better Man (music & lyrics by Robbie Williams, Freddy Wexler and Sacha Skarbek); and “Kiss the Sky” from The Wild Robot (music & lyrics by Delacey, Jordan K. Johnson, Stefan Johnson, Maren Morris, Michael Pollack and Ali Tamposi).

While Reznor and Ross fell to “El Mal” for best original song, they did take home best original score – motion picture for Challengers earlier in the night.

Emilia Pérez entered the night with eight nominations, including a best supporting actress – motion picture nod for Selena Gomez, whose co-star Saldaña took home the prize.
