Dua Lipa Continues Local Cover Streak by Singing Enrique Iglesias’ ‘Hero’ in Madrid

The singer delivered the song in Spanish

Dua Lipa seems to be making a habit of covering local icons on her current Radical Optimism world tour. For her May 11 show at Madrid’s Movistar Arena, she surprised fans with a performance of Enrique Iglasias’ 2001 hit “Hero” in Spanish.

In a clip shared by Billboard, Lipa swayed while singing a cover of the song with her band before breaking out into a giggle and making a heart with her hands towards the crowd. At the turn of the century, Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias was a crossover star, with the English version of “Hero” hitting Number Three on the Hot 100 and spending a cumulative 34 weeks on the chart, the site reports. The Spanish version that Lipa sang, called “Héroe,” spent a week at Number One on the Hot Latin Songs chart.

Last month in New Zealand, Lipa had Crowded House frontman and New Zealand native Neil Finn join her on stage for a lively cover of the band’s 1986 song “Don’t Dream It’s Over.” During another show in Auckland, New Zealand, she covered Lorde’s “Royals.” She also covered Troye Sivan, INXS, Kylie Minogue, Vance Joy, and AC/DC through her Australian leg. At a Sydney show in March, she covered her collaborator Kevin Parker’s song with Tame Impala, “The Less I Know the Better,” with him.

“I made most of Radical Optimism with this person and he’s one of my favorite artists,” Lipa said at the time, before bringing Parker on stage. “He’s inspired me a lot. I manifested and dreamt about working with him one day and then I managed to make one of my favorite albums with him.”

The European leg of her Radical Optimism tour continues through June and includes stops in Paris, Amsterdam, London, and Dublin. The North American leg begins in Toronto in September, followed by a South American trek in November.
