Drake shares petition calling for Tory Lanez to be freed after prison stabbing

Drake has shared a petition calling for Tory Lanez to be freed after he was stabbed in prison.

The Canadian rapper made the plea on Instagram stories; he has previously called for Lanez (real name Daystar Peterson) to be released from prison after he was found guilty of shooting Megan The Stallion in the feet.

Yesterday, Drake demanded Peterson be freed once again, making an Instagram story sharing a link to a petition. He captioned the link: “Come home soon”.

Peterson, who is serving 10 years of jail for the shooting, was attacked in prison on May 12 by a fellow inmate at the California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi. He was reportedly stabbed 14 times, with both of his lungs apparently collapsing and requiring the rapper to use a breathing apparatus.

However, in an update shared to Peterson’s social media, he is now able to breathe on his own, and “despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits”.

Since being convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion, the Texas rapper has successfully obtained a five-year restraining order against Lanez. Megan told the court she feared she may be shot again if Lanez were released from prison; the restraining order now will be in place until January 2030.

Last April, Megan’s attorneys also requested that a judge hold Lanez in contempt of court due to his behaviour during a deposition related to her lawsuit against the blogger Milagro Cooper. As of now, no outcome has been decided.

Meanwhile, Peterson recently attempted to make new music, with one recording session in February disrupted by a prison riot.
