Last week, the country music veteran took to social media to announce the release a new children’s book, Dolly Parton’s Billy The Kid Comes Home For Christmas. It was written by Parton herself, and features illustration by artist MacKenzie Haley. The story was also inspired by Parton’s ‘Comin’ Home For Christmas’ lyrics.

Parton wrote on social media to announce the book: “I always love celebrating Christmas with my family and of course my god-dog @btkthefrenchie. Using my ‘Comin’ Home for Christmas’ lyrics, I wanted to tell a story about the importance of family and friends, especially during the holidays. I hope this is a book families will be excited to read every year for Christmas.”

Dolly Parton’s Billy The Kid Comes Home For Christmas is available for purchase now.

Billy The Kid Comes Home For Christmas serves as a sequel to the singer-songwriter’s previous New York Times bestseller, Dolly Parton’s Billy the Kid Makes It Big. The children’s book’s release comes less than a month after Parton released a cookbook, Good Lookin’ Cookin’ with her sister Rachel Parton George.

Most recently, Parton donated US$1million of her own money to the relief effort for Hurricane Helene. Earlier in the month, Hurricane Helene made landfall across the Southeastern states of the US, laying waste to cities such as Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and many more. At the time of writing, the hurricane has resulted in an estimate of more than 220 deaths, while hundreds of others remain missing. Hundreds of thousands of homes are without power and infrastructural damage is widespread.

Parton’s last album was 2023’s ‘Rockstar’, which saw her collaborate with a slew of pop and rock artists including Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Miley Cyrus, and Kid Rock. It scored a four-star review from Jordan Bassett, who wrote for NME: “Despite the odd unfortunate guest, ‘Rockstar’ is as bursting with life and positivity as the woman who made it.”
