Doechii drops new song ‘Nosebleeds’ in celebration of Grammy win

Doechii has released a new song titled ‘Nosebleeds’ in celebration of her watershed Grammy win.

The hip-hop artist won the coveted Best Rap Album at the awards ceremony last night (February 2) with her mixtape ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal’, beating out the likes of Eminem, J. Cole and Future. Doechii’s win also makes her the third female artist to receive the award after Lauryn Hill and Cardi B.

Just hours after her televised win, Doechii dropped ‘Nosebleeds’ as a ferocious victory lap, where she raps about showing up her naysayers. Per Genius, she also references Kanye West’s acceptance speech for when he won Rap Album of the Year in 2005 for ‘The College Dropout’.

I don’t know, is she gonna go crazy? Is she gonna go crazy? / Everyone wanted to know what Doechii would do if she didn’t win / I guess we’ll never—“, she raps, riffing off of West’s past words, which read: “He’s gonna wild out, he’s gonna do something crazy… Everybody want to know what I would do if I didn’t win… I guess we’ll never know.”

Doechii was also nominated for Best New Artist, an award that went to Chappell Roan, who used her stage time to advocate for up-and-coming artists to receive better treatment from major labels.

Kendrick Lamar walked away as the biggest winner of the night, clinching five awards including Record of The Year and Song Of The Year for ‘Not Like Us’.  He also took home the Grammys for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for ‘Not Like Us’, which has also won Best Music Video. Even as Doechii won the award for Best Rap Album, the rapper and singer has yet to release her debut album. In December, she spoke about what it would look like, teasing that it will be released sometime this year.

In a Variety interview, Doechii explained that she created ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal’ with “pure presence and creativity” and hoped to “carry that with all of my projects and have that mentality moving forward” – including her upcoming album, which will incorporate live instrumentation.

“All I can think about is this album,” she said, “so I’m just looking forward to making more hits, making more music and achieving more of my goals. That’s it.”
