Swift’s 2025 hit was toppled after 78 consecutive days at the summit of the chart by the musical alias of Stranger Things actor Joe Keery‘s 2022 synth pop track, which became a TikTok smash last year.
It reached the summit after hitting 6.5million streams according to Vice, the same milestone it reached in 2024 after going viral. It currently also sits at Number One on the US Spotify chart with 1.38million streams.
The song shot up the charts following the finale of Stranger Things on New Year’s Day (January 1).
In it, the heroic group of friends, which includes Keery’s Steve Harrington joined forces and came together one last time to battle Venca.
“Obviously people are using it [to show] their connection to Chicago, but other people are also connecting it to their version of that city or that time in their life,” Djo previously told NME after the track went viral. “That’s really the whole point of making music: that people take your song and apply it to their own life and make it their own.”
Speaking previously with The Spout podcast, Keery also revealed that Swift told him she liked ‘End Of Beginning’ when he ran into her at a recording studio by chance.
“I just happened to be there the day that she was there. And she’s really nice. I mean, I’ve met her a couple of times,” he said. “Before anything happened with this track, she said, ‘Hey, I really love that track of yours, ‘End Of Beginning’.’ She just said that she had heard the song and, you know, obviously, I’m like, ‘What? You heard that song? How the hell did you hear that song?’”
He went on to say that she discovered the track while digging around for new stuff.
“So, somehow it came across her desk, and she listened to it and then said that she liked it,” Keery explained. “Really, really nice of her.”
Djo released his most recent album ‘The Crux’ last April. “Having this kind of boiling throughout the whole thing… It’s been nice to have something else to work on,” he told NME about his music career simmering beneath the run of Stranger Things in 2025.
“What I did was an extremely unique experience, even in the acting world. People don’t work on things for that long. Can you imagine how sad and weird I’d feel if I was just at home doing nothing? That would be bad for me.”
Elsewhere, Ross Duffer revealed how the iconic David Bowie track ‘Heroes’ was chosen as the final song of Stranger Things and, before then, addressed the ambiguity around the central character Eleven.
With the final episode, some fans compared a scene to a Linkin Park music video, others are convinced another new episode is on the way, and the Duffer Brothers have also admitted they wished they hadn’t done any interviews explaining the final episode following backlash.
