Djo Previews Album ‘The Crux’ With New Single, ‘Potion’

Joe Keery described the single as feeling like “your favorite pair of blue jeans”

Djo, a musical project by Stranger Things star Joe Keery, is giving fans one final peek into the world of The Crux. On Wednesday, Keery released his Lindsey Buckingham-inspired single “Potion,” which arrives ahead of his second album, out Friday.

“‘Potion’ is like your favorite pair of blue jeans,” said Keery in a statement. “I’d been working on Travis-picking when I wrote this song, so it’s kind of like if Harry Nilsson and Lindsey Buckingham had a baby.” (Travis-picking is a guitar technique, notable in many Buckingham songs.)

“Potion” follows a pair of singles from the Stranger Things actor, “Delete Ya” and “Basic Being Basic,” earlier this year. Both are set to appear on the new album. Djo shared a mini preview of “Potion” over the weekend, featuring a short clip of a man walking through a film set as the song plays. The upcoming LP will also feature songs such as “Gap Tooth Smile,” “Link,” “Lonesome Is a State of Mind,” and “Back on You.”

Djo is set to commence his Back on You tour with three shows in Portland this weekend, before heading to cities across North America through early May. He’ll continue his trek with shows in Europe in June before a Lollapalooza appearance in August.

The star’s 2022 nostalgic single “End of Beginning” went viral on TikTok last year, earning more than 1.4 billion streams on the platform. The track was featured on his last album, Decide, but was the Number Six most streamed song of 2024.

“I’ve been so lucky to be on Stranger Things. That’s obviously touched a lot of people. But I wasn’t involved in the writing process, so to have something I actually wrote do that is a really unique experience,” he previously told Rolling Stone about the success of “End of Beginning.”
