DJ Exotic shot during performance in Colombia

Dance music producer DJ Exotic was reportedly shot while performing at a show in Cali, Colombia this past weekend.

On Saturday (November 2) DJ Exotic – real name Daniel Alejandro Salinas – took over the Rey de Corazones motel, performing to an intimate crowd of 200 people. During his set, the Cali-born artist was shot.

According to El Tiempo, Salinas was one of the various performers at the afterparty of another gig that had taken place earlier that night. Authorities reported that the attack took place in the early hours of Sunday morning (November 3).

Yesterday (November 6), El Tiempo reported that a 23-year-old man was identified as a suspect in the shooting.

Per El Tiempo, Salinas underwent surgery following the attack. The DJ took to his official Instagram page and shared an update days after the incident. “We continue to give everything with our heart and best energy. Go for more,” read the caption.

According to Colonel Carlos Oviedo, commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police, the attack occurred roughly around 5:30am (as per El Tiempo). In a statement, Oviedo said: “A patrol that was passing in front of this commercial establishment heard gunshots. They entered and found that, apparently, as a result of a private party, a fight broke out, leading to shots being fired.”

The police reported that the attack led to one death and two wounded – with one of them being DJ Exotic inside the motel where the party was taking place. The three were taken to Cali Hospital Valle del Lili Clinic.

Police seized weapons including a rifle, a revolver and pistols on the scene and are currently investigating how the firearms were able to get into the motel and have threatened sanctions against the institution.
