Divorce pay tribute to social care workers on uplifting new single ‘Hangman’

Divorce have released an empowering new single called ‘Hangman’. Check it out below.

Shared today (February 6), the track marks the final offering from the band’s forthcoming debut album ‘Drive To Goldenhammer’.

Set for release on March 7 via Gravity/Capitol, the record has already been previewed by radiant lead single ‘All My Freaks’, breezy track ‘Antarctica’ and liberating anthem ‘Pill’. You can pre-order and pre-save the album here.

For ‘Hangman’, Felix Mackenzie-Barrow and co. use the track to pay their tribute to the tireless efforts of social care workers, and share their gratitude for those who dedicate their lives to caring for others.

I care about you already/ I want to lift you up,” the co-vocalist and guitarist sings in the empowered track. Check it out below.

According to the singer, the song came together after his own time working as a support worker – an experience that made him realise the efforts that go into the career.

“I wrote Hangman late one night, freezing in my mouldy bedroom after a long shift as a support worker; the job I was doing at the time,” he said. “The job I was doing necessitated a high level of emotional control, which was not something I had experienced before and so writing about the work and allowing my subconscious to flow freely helped me to gain some perspective.”

He continued: “I listened to it on the way back to work the following morning over and over and I felt like I’d done a good one. I only worked in that job for about six months, but it was simultaneously the hardest and most rewarding work I’ve ever done.

“The admiration I have for the people I worked with and the people who choose that career is immense. The world of social care is hidden in a society that likes to pretend it doesn’t exist, but it is vital and deserves much more focus and investment than it currently receives.”

As for the record as a whole, ‘Drive To Goldenhammer’ was made alongside producer Catherine Marks (Boygenius, Foals, Wolf Alice), and explores both “themes of transformation” and “heart-on-sleeve sentiments and tongue-in-cheek humour, devastation, playfulness and all-consuming feelings”.

“This album pays homage to seeking place and home; one of the great human levellers. Much of life feels at odds with this particular need. And to Goldenhammer; you are a reason to keep driving. We will find you again and again!”

As well as gearing up to release the album, Divorce are also set to embark on a UK and Ireland headline tour this spring, which includes a stop at KOKO in London. Find any remaining tickets here.
