In a statement released on Friday (March 14), the United Center confirmed that the banners – which were earned during Michael Jordan’s reign in the 1990s – had sustained “minor damage”.

The damage was sustained during a March 8 performance featuring Disturbed, Three Days Grace and Sevendust, with concert-goers later taking to social media to share clips of flames blowing near the banners.

“[The] United Center is currently working with the Bulls to explore options to repair these banners,” a United Center spokesperson wrote in a statement, per Associated Press. “While the banners will not be in place for the remainder of this season, we do anticipate them being back in place next season.”

The Chicago rock band have not yet commented on the incident, and the Bulls’ championship banners – commemorating their titles from 1991-93 and 1996-98 – will now be absent for the rest of the 2024-25 season.

Meanwhile, the band just announced a new run of dates, including 17 new shows across the UK and Europe, set to kick off later this year. They all come in celebration of the band’s iconic debut album, which will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2025.

Support will come from metal icons Megadeth, and for their headline appearance, David Draiman and co. will play two full sets: one where they break out the setlist to the seminal ‘Sickness’ album in full, and a second comprising the greatest hits from throughout their career.

In other news, earlier this month it was reported that frontman is keen on collaborating with Kendrick Lamar. In a new interview, he said the idea comes as the band have written a track that “needs a strong rapper”, and said that he thinks Kendrick Lamar would be a suitable candidate.

Later this summer, Draiman will also be heading to the UK to take part in Black Sabbath’s final-ever live show, which will take place in Birmingham with support from Metallica, Slayer, Pantera and more.
