Disney Rock Covers Album ‘A Whole New Sound’ Scores Chart-Topping Debut With Yellowcard, Simple Plan & More

The all-star Disney rock covers set A Whole New Sound debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Kid Albums and Compilation Albums charts (dated Sept. 21). The 12-track set boasts rock acts like Yellowcard (featuring Chrissy Costanza), New Found Glory, Simple Plan and Mayday Parade covering such classic Disney tunes as “A Whole New World” (from Aladdin), “Part of Your World” (from The Little Mermaid), “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” (from The Lion King) and “Remember Me” (from Coco).

In July, Simple Plan said in a statement: “We grew up watching Disney movies with our families and now we get to enjoy them with our kids, so it’s pretty amazing to have been invited to be on this album.”

A Whole New Sound was released Sept. 6 as a digital download for purchase (in addition to being made available via streamers). A vinyl release for the project is due out on Oct. 4.

A Whole New Sound also takes a bow at No. 20 on Top Album Sales, No. 48 on Top Rock & Alternative Albums and No. 32 on Independent Albums. It also debuts at No. 195 on the Billboard 200.

A Whole New Sound leads a busy week on the Kid Albums chart – which ranks the week’s top-selling kid albums. The entire top three on the latest edition of the chart are all debuts, with The Kidz at North Station, by AMG Kidz, Kennedy Anderson, Adam Blackstone Jr., The TEENtations and Melodic Haven featuring B.A.A., bowing at No. 2; followed by Vince Guaraldi’s soundtrack to the 1972 TV special You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown arriving at No. 3.
