All of the stars are aligning for Dermot Kennedy as he prepares to embark on the A Promise Return Tour. The Irish musician unveiled the 12-date schedule for the upcoming run, scheduled to make stops at theaters across North America in October. In a statement on Instagram, Kennedy detailed the synergy between these live shows and the kind of shows he’s always wanted to perform.
“I have dreamed of this moment for a long time,” he said. “These are the kind of shows I dreamed of before I had a career. Just me and my lyrics, playing in quiet theatres, all of us getting what we need from the words. In the last 10 years, I still haven’t come across a feeling better than that.”
Kennedy will perform a combination of familiar and fresh songs for the tour, but will filter them through a new lens. “This will be songs old and new, all played in a way you haven’t heard before. I’m so happy and proud to have gotten to this point, and everything feels the way it should,” he added. The title of the tour comes from a new record. “‘A promised return’ means so much to me,” Kennedy shared. “It’s a lyric I wrote in a song recently, and in this context I love it because I feel so excited to return to you guys and see you again, but this is also a return to a feeling.”
The A Promised Return Tour will begin on Oct. 7 in Vancouver and conclude on Oct. 18 in Silver Spring, Maryland. Kennedy will make stops in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Dallas, Atlanta, Nashville, Chicago, Toronto, Boston, and Brooklyn. General sale will begin on Thursday, May 22, at 10 a.m. local time. Presale will run on Wednesday, May 21, from 10 a.m. through 10 p.m. local time.
