Dave Navarro extended an apology to Love and Rockets and Crawlers, the two bands that were opening for Jane’s Addiction on the group’s now-canceled reunion tour.
Navarro shared the note on Instagram Stories (via Brooklyn Vegan), writing, “I would like to personally apologize to @loveandrocketsofficial [and] @cralwersband and their crews for such a terrible outcome of what started off as an incredibly magical tour.”
He also noted how Love and Rockets “are heroes of mine and I am so grateful I had the opportunity to perform on the same stage as them for as long as I did. It has truly been an honor!”
Jane’s Addiction called off the remainder of the tour — which featured the band’s core lineup together for the first time in 14 years — following an onstage altercation between Navarro and singer Perry Farrell last week. According to reports, tensions had been simmering during the run, with Farrell’s bantering with the crowd appearing to frustrate Navarro.
Tensions finally boiled over last Friday, Sept. 13, in Boston, when Farrell yelled at Navarro during “Mountain Song,” and the pair continued to bicker through “Three Days.” Then, during “Ocean Size,” Farrell grew agitated, walked up to Navarro, and rammed his shoulder into the guitarist’s back. Farrell continued to yell at Navarro and punched the guitarist on his shoulder. Several crew members had to hold Farrell back as he tried to lunge at Navarro again. Eventually, the singer was ushered off the stage, and the show ended soon after.
Farrell’s wife, Etty Liu Farrell, offered what she called a “first-person account” of what happened that night on Instagram. She said Farrell’s “frustration had been mounting” during the tour, in part because he was battling a sore throat and tinnitus, and because he felt the stage volume was so loud his “voice was being drowned out by the band.” In Boston, she continued, the audience started complaining about the sound too and “Perry lost it.”
“The band started the song ‘Ocean [Size]’ before Perry was ready and did the count off,” Etty said. “The stage volume was so loud at that point, that Perry couldn’t hear pass the boom and the vibration of the instruments and by the end of the song, he wasn’t singing, he was screaming just be to be heard.”

Upon the cancellation of the tour, Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins, and bassist Eric Avery said the tour was called off due to a “continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell. Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs.”
Farrell himself said, “This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show,” Farrell said in a statement.”
