Courtney Love reveals plans to become British citizen: “Can’t get rid of me!”

Courtney Love has shared that she is planning on becoming a British citizen.

The Hole frontwoman shared the news while at a recent event in London, hosted by the Royal Geographical Society. According to reports from The Independent and the Daily Mail, she reflected on her time living in the UK and said that she is already under way with applying for citizenship.

“I’m really glad I’m here,” she explained. “It’s so great to live here. I’m finally getting my British citizenship in six months. I get to be a citizen – I’m applying, man! Can’t get rid of me!”

The artist moved to the UK from Los Angeles back in 2019, and it seems that the move to get citizenship comes partly due to the political landscape across the US.

Going on to address US President Donald Trump and the Republican Party, Love added: “It’s like emperor-core, like [they’re] wearing million-dollar watches. Emperor-core is going on at Mar-a-Lago. It’s frightening now. It’s like cyanide now.”

The comments come after the singer, songwriter and guitarist spoke to NME about relocating in 2020, after picking up the Icon Award at the 2020 NME Awards.

“As of October 18 [2020], I have been in London a year. I should say we have been in London a year,” she said at the time. “I’ve lived here at several points in my life and every time I left the UK, I’d get sad.

“And on top of that you know, for a while I actually did not pick up my guitar. I stopped having the kind of relationship that you need to have with the guitar to write good guitar songs. So, I came here to focus on writing my book and my record.”

She also told the Evening Standard about her love for the city in 2017, saying that she knew that she was eventually “going to end up there” permanently.

Love added at the time: “I know what neighbourhood I’m going to end up in, and I know that I want to be on the Thames… I subscribe to this magazine called Country Life, which is just real-estate porn and fox hunting. It’s amazing.”

Love isn’t the only famous face to cross the pond following Donald Trump’s return to the White House. Just last week it was reported that comedian and TV host Rosie O’Donnell is planning on moving to Ireland in the wake of Trump’s recent re-election.

Shortly before then, reports emerged that Ellen DeGeneres and her wife had moved to England and will likely “never” return to the US due to the political situation.

As for other Courtney Love news, the rock icon shared an update on her new album and memoir earlier this month. It comes after she started building up hype for her second-ever solo album and long-awaited follow-up to 2004’s ‘America’s Sweetheart’ in recent years. Back in November, she revealed that she had enlisted Echo & The Bunnymen’s Will Sargeant for the new album, but not the “rude” PJ Harvey.
