A new documentary about Courtney Love, titled Antiheroine, has been announced as part of the 2026 lineup of the Sundance Film Festival.
The film will be directed by Edward Lovelace and James Hall, who made the 2014 film The Possibilities Are Endless, which followed singer Edwyn Collins during his recovery from a stroke. It will be produced by Dorothy St. Pictures, the company behind the recent Victoria Beckham Netflix series as well as the 2023 documentary Pamela: A Love Story.
The official synopsis for the film reads: “Singer, songwriter, and actor Courtney Love has long had an impact on rock and pop culture. Now sober and set to release new music for the first time in over a decade, Courtney is ready to reveal her story, unfiltered and unapologetic.”
The film joins a Sundance 2026 lineup that includes The Moment, a mockumentary where Charli XCX plays a fictional version of herself. The ‘Brat’ singer will also be seen at the festival in the heist movie The Gallerist, co-starring Jenna Ortega; as well as the erotic thriller I Want Your Sex, opposite Cooper Hoffman and Olivia Wilde. Sundance Film Festival runs from January 22 to February 1.
As the lead singer of Hole and as a solo artist, Courtney Love has remained a prominent figure in the music industry since the 1990s. Her last album was Hole’s 2010 release ‘Nobody’s Daughter’, while her last solo album was the 2004 release ‘America’s Sweetheart’. As the synopsis suggests, she is working on a highly anticipated new solo album, and gave an update about its progress, as well as her memoir, in March.
At that time, she also revealed her plans to become a British citizen, saying: “I’m really glad I’m here. It’s so great to live here. I’m finally getting my British citizenship in six months. I get to be a citizen – I’m applying, man! Can’t get rid of me!”
Recently, actor Adam Sandler shared his love for Hole’s 1994 release ‘Live Through This’, as well as running into regular co-star Drew Barrymore at one of the band’s shows.
