Country Duo Maddie & Tae Are Splitting: ‘We’re Leaving This So Open-Ended’

Country duo Maddie & Tae has announced they are going their separate ways professionally, Billboard has confirmed. The news was first reported by People.

The duo’s Maddie Marlowe Font and Taylor Dye Kerr revealed that Font plans to continue on with a solo career, while Kerr is focusing on her family. Kerr wed writer-producer Josh Kerr in 2020, and they are parents to daughter Leighton and son Chapel. Font and her husband, Jonah, are parents to son Forrest.

“We’re leaving this so open-ended because, you know, we might make another record one day,” Font told People. “We might go do some tour dates one day.” She also added, “But just in this season. It doesn’t feel aligned for us to do it together.”

“It’s been such a hard, hard — honestly, heartbreaking — decision,” Kerr noted. “This was the only dream I’ve ever had since I exited the womb. I had a very specific vision of creating music and singing music. When we met at 15, that’s what we set out to do, and we’re both just so grateful that we’ve had the journey that we’ve had. This career has been everything we’ve ever wanted.”

The duo is known for songs including the No. 1 Billboard Country Airplay hits “Girl in a Country Song” and “Die From a Broken Heart.” They have also been nominated for the CMA’s vocal duo of the year category each year since 2015. They’ve recorded four albums and four EPs, including their most recent project, 2025’s Love & Light.
